Why people stay in Simeonovo
Simeonovo is Dragalevtsi's neighbour to the east and its main advantage is a single practical thing: the Simeonovo cable car (a proper cabin gondola) has run more reliably than the Dragalevtsi chairlift in recent years, making it the default way up Mount Vitosha for hikers and skiers. The village itself is a mix of village houses and 1990s villa developments, quiet and forested, with a handful of restaurants clustered near the cable car base.
Suits skiers, serious hikers, and anyone who values reliable mountain access. Skip it if you want an old-village atmosphere — Simeonovo has less of that than Dragalevtsi or Boyana, and more new-build suburban feel. Prices for small hotels and guesthouses are $55 to $95. Restaurants close by 22:00; no bars to speak of. The cable car operates weekends year-round and daily in ski season.
Focus on streets within 10 minutes' walk of the cable car base — Simeonovo Boulevard, Ravnishte, and the lanes off Vasil Ivanovski. Small hotels $55 to $95, family guesthouses $45 to $70. Things to do in Simeonovo
The reliable Vitosha gondola. Base station at the top of Ravnishte street. $6 return to the middle station, $10 return to Aleko at 1800 m. Runs weekends 08:30 to 16:30 year-round, daily in ski season. Bikes carried in summer $2 extra.
Reach Aleko via the cable car. Winter: ski hire on-site $20 a day, day pass $30. Summer: trailheads to Cherni Vrah (1.5 hours), Skoparnik ridge (2 hours) and back to Simeonovo on foot (2 hours down). Cafe at Aleko $4 for a soup.
Simeonovo Boulevard 72. Traditional Bulgarian, outdoor terrace, mains $7 to $12. Open 11:00 to 22:00 daily. Popular with cable car returnees on weekend afternoons — book if arriving after 13:00.
3-hour marked forest trail east from Simeonovo through the woods to Boyana village. Ends near the Boyana Church, so you can visit the UNESCO site at the end. Return by bus 64 from Boyana. Good for a full day.

Getting around Simeonovo
Bus 122 from Vitosha metro (M4) to Simeonovo runs every 20 to 30 minutes, 15 minutes, $0.90. Bus 64 also connects to Hladilnika. From the airport, metro plus bus is 55 minutes; taxi $22 to $30. Inside the village walking is fine but the cable car base is uphill from the main bus stop, allow 10 minutes climb. Cars useful for reaching further trailheads.
