Why people stay in Triaditsa
Triaditsa is Sofia's shopping and eating strip. Vitosha Boulevard runs the length of it, pedestrianised from Patriarch Evtimiy south to the NDK (National Palace of Culture), lined with restaurants at $8 to $20 a main course, a fountain that everyone photographs, and the mountain itself framing the view south. The NDK park behind is where locals actually spend evenings — skateboarders, dog walkers, teenagers on the grass, free concerts in July and August.
This is the choice for travellers who want to eat well, drink late (many places until 02:00), and not care about a car. Prices are 20 to 30 percent above Vazrazhdane but you are still cheap by European capital standards. The downside is noise: Vitosha Boulevard itself is not quiet until 01:00, and the side streets around Solunska are full of rooftop bars. Book something one street back from Vitosha itself.
The streets between Vitosha and Graf Ignatiev — Solunska, William Gladstone, Neofit Rilski — have boutique hotels at $65 to $110 and are two minutes from the main boulevard without the noise. Avoid Patriarch Evtimiy Boulevard (heavy traffic) and anything south of NDK (nothing wrong, just a 20-minute walk from the interesting streets). NDK metro (M2) is at the southern end and Serdika at the north — everything walkable in between.

The rooftop bar of Sense Hotel on Tsar Osvoboditel 16 has the best view of Alexander Nevsky in the city. Cocktails $8 to $12, dress code casual smart. Open 18:00 to 01:00, reservations recommended for sunset.
The plaza in front of the National Palace of Culture, at the south end of Vitosha Boulevard. Fountains lit at night, free live music most summer evenings 20:00, food trucks Fridays and Saturdays.

Getting around Triaditsa
M2 metro serves both ends: Serdika at the north, NDK at the south, 4 minutes between them. From the airport, M4 to Serdika then M2 one stop, about 30 minutes total for $0.90. Central Station is M2 direct to Serdika. Inside Triaditsa, walking is easiest — Vitosha Boulevard is closed to cars for most of its length. Taxis anywhere in the district are $2 to $4.

The northern half (between Sveta Nedelya and Patriarch Evtimiy) is denser and more touristy. The southern half (Patriarch Evtimiy to NDK) is quieter, more local, and closer to the park. For a first visit, north; for a repeat, south.
